House Bill 4807 or the Protection against Personal Intrusion Act authored by Congressman Rufus Rodriguez has now passed the 2nd reading in Congress. This is said to be an 'anti-selfie bill'.

MANILA - Are you fond of taking random images of yourself or taking selfies, other people, places, and other stuffs to be uploaded in social media websites? Well, better be careful as there is this bill that may prevent you from taking selfie shots.

In fact, TIME magazine conducted a world ranking of selfie where Pasig and Makati hailed as the 'selfie capitals of the world'.

According to ABS-CBN news report, House Bill 4807 or the Protection against Personal Intrusion Act is now up for 3rd reading in plenary.

This bill is dubbed as 'anti-selfie bill'. As per Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate, this bill pushing in Congress is going to prevent citizens to take photos of other people without given permission.

House Bill 4807 seeks to prevent taking images, videos, or audio recordings of a person inside any private properties or even in any personal or family activities.

But according to the author of House Bill 4807, Congressman Rufus Rodriguez, 'right to privacy' is to be protected by this bill. There's no anti-selfie, as per Rep. Rodriguez.

This bill has already passed the 2nd reading, but Rep. Rodriguez is willing to bring it back to the committee level for the enlightenment of the the affected sectors.

It would seem that people from the media and journalists can be targets of the proposed measure...We worry that this proposed measure can become a tool that "unwilling public figures" will use to suppress press freedom.

"Private property" must be spelled out and defined. Public places, cars, public transport, public buildings, among others, and individuals, who by nature of their position or profession are classified as public figures, cannot claim violation of privacy.

Does "personal privacy" extend to public domain or public places in private spaces, for instance malls, shopping centers, events venues, a luxurious resort, among others?
