Three albino children birthed by a black mother due to rare genetic condition

Meet the black mum who gave birth to three white children due to a rare genetic condition called albinism.

Rosemere Fernanda de Andrade is a mother of six children from Recife, Brazil often mistaken to be the nanny of her children because they are white and she is black.

When Rosemere gave birth to her first child, she thought her baby had been switched in the maternity ward and somebody was playing a trick with her because her baby looks so different from she was expecting.

Both parents, Rosemere and Joao (ex-husband), are black but her daughter came out with white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes.

But, her daughter Ruth is her real child and no one was playing a trick on her in the maternity ward. Ruth was born with albinism, a rare genetic condition as the result of having a pale complexion due to loss of skin pigment.

After Ruth, Joao Paulo was born black, her second child. At that time, she really believed that there had been a mix-up happened. But after Estefani, third child, was born she accepted that they were really her own children.

Since then, Kauan was born with albino also and followed by the normal ones, Rebeca and Maria.

Rosemere is now 31 years old with three albino children and three black kids.

Children with albinism are facing extra daily life challenges as this rare condition causes poor eyesight and loss of skin pigment requiring them to wear eyeglasses and to protect themselves in direct sunlight and extremely hot weather.

Ruth and Estefani were often being mocked in their campus for wearing eyeglasses, calling them 'four eyes.' They were also being teased in relation to the colour of their skin and hair.

Albinism is also linked to skin cancer like melanomas. They are high risk to this kind of skin cancer making life even difficult for them but Rosemere believes that she can continue to give her children normal lives by taking extra care of their skin against the sun and during hot days.
The possibility of having albino kids doesn't worry me because I know all the ways to take care of them and being afraid and being worried, doesn't help.
I wouldn't be worried of having albino children. Would we be surprised? No. I wouldn't be afraid, because we're not alone in the world. There are other albino people like me and my brothers and I think it's normal to have albino people in the world.
-Ruth and Estafani
