In five years' time, asthma will have its cure due to this breakthrough discovered by the scientists and researchers that an existing drug could be safely used for treating this condition.

By year 2020, asthmatics would not need to carry any inhalers every time they are going outside as scientists believe that this can be done according to the recent studies.

Cardiff University and Kings College London researchers have discovered which cells causes this debilitating condition. Findings. which researchers described a 'incredibly exciting', showed the way how to stop it the cells that causes asthma.

Drug that used to treat bone disease osteoporosis could also be used to kill that cells causing the airways to narrow when triggered by irritants.

Professor Daniela Riccardi of Cardiff University School of Biosciences talks about how excited they are on this breakthrough. She said: "If we can prove that calcilytics are safe when administered directly to the lung in people, then in five years we could be in a position to treat patients and potentially stop asthma from happening in the first place."

Asthma is caused by the inflammation of airways as a result of shortness of breath and lungs out of air. The problem is, trigger factors are still unknown.

As per the research, it was found out that calcilytic drugs could deactivate the cells causing the inflammation alleviating the symptoms from the sufferers.

Researches conducted tests of administering the drugs from mice and humans directly in airway tissue.

The director of research and policy at Asthma UK, Dr. Samatha Walker, said: "This hugely exciting discovery enables us, for the first time, to tackle the underlying causes of asthma symptoms. Five per cent of people with asthma don't respond to current treatments so research breakthroughs could be life changing for hundreds of thousands of people. If this research proves successful we may be just a few years away from a new treatment for asthma, and we urgently need further investment to take it further through clinical trials."
