Netizens appealed for an all out ban in Chinese products after the spread of fake rice in Davao City.

DAVAO, PHILIPPINES -- Several rice consumers from Davao city are currently facing a crisis after the spread of synthetic rice throughout the place.

According to a recent report from ABS-CBN news, upon first glance, one would not expect that these are fake rice. In fact, they look pretty normal on the outside but when they are steamed and cooked, bits of styrofoam will appear.

This controversy quickly made its way to city Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and he addressed this issue in his radio program 'Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa' while saying that they will put an action to it by establishing checkpoints in piers for inspection.

The enraged Mayor also imposed a warning to the fake rice distributors:

''If you are importer of a fake rice, you better [back] off. Huwag mong gawin [iyan] kasi ipapakain ko sa'yo lahat iyan. Kung dis cientos tonelada iyan I will give you 24 hours to eat that."

On the other hand, netizens expressed their disappointment over this issue and pointed out the the synthetic rice came from China, along with other fake products like siomai stuffed with carton, milk powdered with Melaware, meat with extenders and many more.

Aside from the health-related dangers they can cause, it can also be a great nuissance for people who spend their money in buying these fake products.

Because of this, netizens call for an all out ban in Chinese products while saying that instead of patronizing fake imports from China, we can support our local farmers and get premium standard rice in return.
