A mountain quake hit northern part of Borneo known as Sabah Malaysia and its Mount Kinabalu suffered serious damage.

Many casualties were reported and about 137 climbers were stranded on the mountain for several hours but were now safe and sound.

A Singaporean girl and a local guide are among the dead and bodies are recovered, say local media.

A tweet from Sabah tourism minister Masidi Manjun: "The 137 climbers have safely arrived at the Park HQ, the last batch at 2.50 am."

According to the latest report of BBC, a total of 11 bodies had been found and recovered while the rescue teams keep on searching for another eight people still missing.

This 6.0 magnitude earthquake caused the famous "Donkey's Ear" peak of Mount Kinabalu to snap off.

Bad weather slowed down the rescue search operations on Friday. Helicopters were unable to land on the mountain. Tour guides and park rangers help the climbers to go down from the mountain.

There were groups who climbed to the summit to witness the sunrise but earthquake struck instead.

According to the data released by US Geological Survey, the quake happened at around 07:15 local time (00:15 BST), at a depth of 10km or 32,800ft. The epicenter from Mount Kinabalu was 54km or 33 miles which stands at 4,095m.

Moount Kinabalu is known for its challenging "via ferrata" climbing route where steep terrain only have bridges, cables, and metal rungs to help climbers ascend.

Due to this natural disaster, all activity on the mountain has now been suspended.
