This bacterium lives in the warm seawater. They can invade the body through eating fresh seashells and entering fresh cut wounds. How to avoid them is necessary for you know.

Health officials warn beachgoers in Florida to be careful going into the beaches due to the potentially deadly bacteria that lives in seawater as this already killed two people with seven more infected just this year.

Florida Health Department Mara Burger said in a statement that "people can get infected with Vibrio vulnificus when they eat raw shellfish. Since it is naturally found in warm marine waters, people with open wounds can be exposed to Vibrio vulnificus through direct contact with seawater."

Signs and symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may be present once the contaminated food with this bacterium is consumed. Bacteria Vibrio vulnificus can infect an open wound and can enter the body through it resulting to skin breakdown and ulcers that can lead to flesh-eating symptoms.

Those people with weak immune system are vulnerable to severe complications and are at a higher risks compared to the healthy people that may only experience mild symptom. Individuals with chronic liver disease should watch out this bacteria.

This bacterium can go through the bloodstream. When this happens, a person infected with it will have fever, chills. blistering skin lesions, septic shock and even death.

Safety precautions: Do not enter warm seawater if fresh cuts or scrapes are present in the boy. Wear proper foot protection to avoid cuts from rocks and seashells on the beach especially those people with compromised immune system. Avoid eating raw or fresh foods straight from the sea like mussels, clams, and oysters. Cook them thoroughly and eat right after they are cooked.
