A couple's death after eating at McDonalds is circulating online. McDonald's released an official statement about this claim.

Daang Hari, Las Piñas City - A series of messages are circulating online abut a couple who died after eating in McDonalds Evia branch in Las Piñas City. A Facebook user named "Rina Montemayor", a mom of a third grader in De La Salle Santiago Zobel, started the said messages.

It was reported that the brother and sister-in-law of a certain Bob Escanos passed away hours after “ingesting toxin” from McDonald’s Evia along Daang Hari. A second message from Montemayor confirmed that the incident indeed happened.

In the third message, a guy named "PJ" was at an unnamed hospital around 2 am. He confirmed that his wife died in the car while he still managed to reach the hospital where he also died.

This screenshot shows the message circulating on social media in which, according to The DailyPedia, the source of the message has yet to be identified.

McDonalds released their official statement through EON Inc, their Public Relations agency. McDonalds sent an email that they are currently conducting an investigation regarding the incident. They also mentioned that the information circulating online was not confirmed yet.

In its statement as of 12 noon on July 11, the fast food restaurant said:

Nothing is more important to McDonald's than the safety and well-being of all our customers.

We would like to assure everyone that the food and drinks we serve are safe. We adhere to strict food safety and quality standards at all times.

The initial police report involving the case of Mr. Jose Maria C. Escano and Ms. Juliet Yap Escano in Las Piñas, has been released and cited 'shock secondary to [the] ingestion of [a] toxic substance' as their cause of death.

The substance and its source have NOT been identified.

To date, we have not received any formal inquiry from the authorities or the Escano family.

We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and the assurance of full cooperation to the authorities should they request for our assistance in the investigation.

It is important during a time like this to let the proper investigation occur and assist the authorities in bringing resolution and clarity to the family.

We continue to ask the public not to speculate and be responsible in sharing information."

Here's a screenshot of McDonald's official statement.

On the other hand, netizens do not really believe on the said news. People think that the said message is just a speculation to damage the fast food giant's reputation.
