An unnamed netizen expressed her disappointment with her TIN ID

A concerned netizen expressed her disappointment with her TIN (Tax Identification Number) ID on Facebook.

She addressed her message to Ms. Kim Henares, the secretary of Bureau of Internal Revenue.

"Dear Kim Henares,

We pay huge amount of money for our taxes and there's almost nothing left from our salary but our TIN ID is made of paper. The worst thing is, it is not even laminated and we have to paste pictures on our own.

Our school ID and even SM Advantage card look better than our TIN ID?

Please explain, Love you!"

The picture became viral and it was shared and liked by many netizens.

TIN ID cards are not for free. You pay for them through the taxes that you pay.

Some netizens said that if BIR upgrades its system, there would be more opportunity for the government to corrupt some funds.

Meanwhile, Inquirer reported last May 22, 2015 that starting next year, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will do away with tax identification number or TIN cards made of cardboard and roll out IDs printed on smart cards, according to Revenue Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares.

“By next year, we will be issuing a TIN card that’s on a smart card rather than cardboard. The other thing we want to do is eventually... you will swipe the card so the receipt will come out with your TIN number because that’s already a requirement for VAT (value-added taxes) deduction,” Ms. Henares said in her remarks before the general membership meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, Inc.

The BIR chief disclosed the plan during the general membership meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, adding that the pilot testing of TIN IDs made of smart cards would start in August.

The TIN consists of a 9-12 digit numeric code. Latest available BIR data show that 28,468,838 TINs had been issued as of July 9 last year. The total consists of 27,900,422 for individuals and 568,416 for non-individual taxpayers.
