Commuters perished due to the massive traffic congestion caused by the protest.
From Taft last Thursday, thousands of Iglesia ni Cristo followers have flocked their way to EDSA Shrine last Friday noon voicing their protest against Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima. Followers of all ages partake in the rally that reached EDSA-Shaw Boulevard to show their strong disapproval against de Lima's alleged meddling with their church affairs. According to a recent report from GMA news, protesters planned to continue their rally until Monday. This event resulted in an extreme traffic congestion due to the impassable roads. Commuters in several social networking sites expressed their dismay over the traffic congestion that interfered with their work. Several netizens criticised the government for its lack of action towards the protesters. Aside from shouting obscenities such as 'hostess' towards de Lima, protesters also built a make-shift stage to further stress their right for separation of church and state. The tension rooted from the charges filed by expelled INC minister Isaias Samson Jr. against the other ministers for allegedly harassing and detaining him and his family. The DOJ, especially de Lima, were put under public scrutiny by the INC followers for looking at the charges. Despite of the lack of rally permit from the Quezon city local government, the crowd pursued their protest until the numbers reached up to 2,500 as of 2 AM, Friday.
