New MRT prototype train arrives from China


P3.75B worth of prototype unit for MRT Line 3 arrives yesterday.

Following the Department of Transportation and Communication's (DOTC) implementation project for Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3, a new prototype train from Dalian, China finally arrived in Port of Manila yesterday at 1 a.m.

The unit is worth P3.75B and is ready for dynamic and static testing. According to, the team in charge of supervising the newly-arrived units said that 'the prototype appears to be of good and reliable quality'.

On the other hand, the prototype is headed directly at the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) while waiting to be assembled by engineers from Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company.

The assembly will reportedly take place on the last week of August. After being assembled at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1, the unit will be transported to MRT Line 3 at North EDSA, Quezon City.

Monthly deliveries of the unit will start as early as January 2016. The new prototype train is a part of DOTC's implementation project to improve the service of MRT Line 3 to the commuters.
