Woman gets criticized online for bashing a man who refuse to offer his seat in train

Is it justifiable for this woman to bash a man for not offering his seat to her? Here's what the social media has to say.

The word 'comfort' seldom corresponds with the public transportation system in the country. If you're a regular commuter who often rides public transportation vehicles like jeepney, FX, bus or train, then you must be aware of the struggle in commuting especially during the rush hour.

It is not an unusual scenario to find many people standing in a packed vehicle particularly in the LRT and MRT, where an available seat is considered luxury. You can say it is no longer a feasible option to give up your seat for somebody. However, on several occasions, you can find questionable situation which will make you ask yourself: is chivalry really dead?

This is exactly the question that apparently got a woman in trouble on the social media. On December 8, a Facebook user named Paola Kristal Shane Gardon posted a rant that has got eyebrows raising. She complained of a man who refused to offer his seat to her in the train.

Ang kapal lang ng mukha. Hindi porke't babae ka may karapatan ka ng umupo kahit saan mo gusto. Hindi obligasyon ng mga lalake na offeran ka ng seat. Lalo na sa ganyang ugali mo. Mal educada

One of the reasons why ladies keep on saying that chivalry is dead. Unattractive na nga di pa gentleman, enraged Gardon said in her post. She even included a photo of the said man who was obviously not aware that he was being photographed.

Gardon added that she was simply being honest and her post did not intend to offend any man. Despite of this, her controversial post caused a stir in the social media about gender equality. Is the man to be blame for not offering his seat or is it the woman's fault for expecting a VIP treatment?

Most people in social media took the side of the man, while some of them have mixed reactions. We gathered some of their comments from Facebook and here's what they have to say:

Hindi ba respeto rin yan? Kasi tinatrato ng mga lalaki ang mga babae as equals. We'll give our seats sa mga matatanda, buntis, may kasamang bata at may kapansanan. (Isn't that respect? Because men are treating women equally. We'll give our seats to elders, pregnant women, disabled and those who carry children. If you are able to stand, then stand.)

Sumakay ka alam mong tayuan tapos mag-expect ka na may gentleman na mag papaupo sayo eh pano nalang kung pagod sa trabaho yan pinicturan mo. (You still rode despite knowing you'll be standing, yet you're expecting that a gentleman will offer his seat to you. What if the man you photographed was tired?)

What ever happened to the idea that men were created equal with women?
Generally speaking, it is not a man's duty to give up his seat to a woman, especially if the said woman is capable of supporting herself. Gender equality promotes that men and women alike should receive equal treatment. It certainly does not mean getting privileges and special treatment simply for being a woman.
