Caguioa pays surprise visit to grant wish of a dying Ginebra fan

Mark Caguioa brought colors to the final moment of his die-hard fan in Batangas.

MANILA, Philippines-- Yet again, Mark "The Spark" Caguioa from the well-known Barangay Ginebra San Miguel team proves his head is not only in the game but his heart also goes out for his fans. As Inquirer puts it, the basketball star may have just "made the biggest assist of his life and it wasn’t on the basketball court", but on his dying fan's side.

Caguioa came all the way to Batangas to grant the wish of a dying man who idolizes him and his love for the ball. The former PBA Most Valuable Player fulfilled the wishes of a woman whose father was dying from chronic kidney and heart failure and was bedridden for months now. Rachel Ann Reglos-Lim is the daughter of the man known as Papa Gani who utilized social media to draw the attention of the basketball team.

Using Twitter, Lim sent out a series of tweets explaining her bedridden father's situation as well as his pledge of seeing his favorite basketball team--especially Caguioa--before he passes away. In a tweet, she detailed to Caguioa how her father "kept on saying that he wants to meet you as his last wish". Aside from Twitter, Lim also posted her plea on Facebook on December 28, 2015 requesting for the help of her friends to spread the message across Caguioa.
Due to the help of social media, it didn't take long before the player noticed Lim's heartfelt message. Caguioa and his other teammate Jayjay Helterbrand immediately responded with a video message and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel team in turn sent out their support and prayers to Papa Gani. But that was not all, because on Sunday, the basketball star flew all the way to Batangas to personally visit Papa Gani.

Shout to Paz Franco Dulay and to her husband Edman for requesting his officemate Katrina Marcos for a short but meaningful message for our Papa Gani. And to Sir Duane Ivan AscaƱo for introducing me to Sir Chris Ang who took time to call me about this. Me and my family were too overwhelmed for the blessings that we received today for hi Truly the saying "Never Say Die" attitude runs in our blood. Thank you Mark Caguioa for that awesome video clip! Blessed you for u have a kind heart!#markthesparkcaguioa#nsd#finalevideo#allthebestforpapagani#wishgranted#thankyoumgakabarangay

On Sunday, Lim posted photos of Caguioa's surprise visit which she called as an 'answered prayer'. She also posted the photos of the touching encounter which shows
"Who would have thought that after the video clips sent to me for Papa Gani, a man surprisingly visited us all the way here in Batangas just to see and meet him…Papa Gani was in shock and kept on blinking his eyes just to make sure that it’s the real Mark Caguioa!”

Even before his final moments on his deathbed, Papa Gani's life was filled with hope and excitement as Caguioa visited their house; the man who he used to only watched through the screen is now in front of him. As a matter of fact, according to a recent report from GMA news, Lim said that her father constantly blinks to make sure that the basketball icon is really standing before his eyes.
"We are truly thankful Sir for what you did to my father. You are not just the best when it comes to basketball, but you are also a very kind man granting a diehardfan's wish. This moment will never be forgotten. In our hearts."

Aside from expressing her gratitude, Kim also said that her father, as well as the rest of the family will continue supporting the whole Ginebra team.
"More power[in] the next season and rest assure[d] that the whole family will always support you and whole Barangay Ginebra Team!”
