Colgate-Palmolive Philippines Inc. hopes to revive their manufatcturing operations in the country but it will be only possible depending on the next administration’s course of action on addressing local industries’ problems.

Infrastructure, high electricity and water rates are some of the main problems of manufacturing sector that cripple local industries.

If the next administration will address these problems right, Colgate-Palmolive may return its manufacturing operations in the country.

Lau noted that reopening of the factory is possible as long as the company was assured that their business would be able to grow. He hope that day would come.

The manufacturing firm closed its facility last 2008 and transferred to Thailand and Malaysia. The products from Colgate-Palmolive being supplied in the country is from Thailand, China, India and the United States.

Lau said the parent firm continued to bank on Asia for its expansion since the region was deemed the growth engine of the global economy.

The Colgate toothpaste brand has roughly 60 percent market share while the Palmolive shampoo brand has a 27-percent market share.

“The Philippine market overall, I believe, still continues to have a high single-digit growth in oral and personal care categories. But this year, growth (in these categories) will be better because according to history, during the election period, people have more disposable income to buy personal care products,” Lau explained.

There will be a lot of jobs to do for the next leaders of the country!
