UFC fighter Ronda Rousey thought about killing herself after title loss

Ronda Rousey had suicidal thoughts for feeling such a failure after losing a match.

In an emotional interview on the The Ellen Degeneres Show, MMA fighter Ronda Rousey revealed that she had suicidal thoughts after her devestating knock-out loss to Holly Holm in UFC 193 which left her needing hospital treatment.

The former bantamweight champ, who appeared on Ellen to promote her new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover, lost her UFC title last November after sustaining a brutal kick to the head that made her question everything. She said that she was like in the medical room, sitting in the corner and asking herself what is she anymore if she’s not that in tears. She was literally sitting there thinking about killing herself, and in that exact second, she’s like feeling nothing, asking herself what does she do anymore, she explained.

Rousey, a former Olympic judo medalist whose father committed suicide when she was eight years old, said the support of her boyfriend, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, snapped her out of her despair.
Rousey said she looked up and saw her man, Travis, was standing there. She’s looking up at him and was like telling herself that she needs to have his babies, and needs to stay alive. That’s what she was thinking. That she was surely meant to have him while she was at her lowest. She doesn’t know if she would’ve made it without him.

She is hoping to eventually secure a rematch against Holm, a former world boxing champion who comprehensively out-fought her in their first fight despite being a massive underdog. Rousey suggested her punishing schedule — the Holm fight was her third title defense in nine months — had caught up with her.

The former bantamweight champ said that it’s always crazy going into every fight. It’s always so much chaos and things going on. Things weren’t perfect, they never are. There’s one thing she stressed out that was different, it’s her third title fight in nine months. She doesn’t think anyone has even attempted that before. She doesn’t make excuses. She’s fought in worse conditions, but she thinks one thing was different, she felt tired, but she’s been more tired.

However, this heartbreaking match has given Rousey new perspective. She does believe all the best things come from the worst things. She expressed that everyone has their moment of picking themselves off the floor, and she’s gone through several of hers, but no one had ever seen her go through it. She really does believe she’s still undefeated because being defeated is a choice. Everyone has losses in their life, but she chooses to always be undefeated, she said.
