LOOK: President-elect Duterte spotted eating in a carinderia

These viral photos captured the humility and simplicity of Digong, who preferred to dine in a shabby carinderia over fancy restaurants.

How often do you see famous people roaming the streets? The reason you don't see them very often is because public personalities tend to combat more threats to their safety compared to other people. It doesn't matter even if its a celebrity or a politician; everywhere they go, their safety is always at risk. Given that, you could've just imagine the people's surprise upon finding a future president roaming the streets freely!

Incumbent president and former mayor of Davao City Rodrigo Duterte shocked the netizens as viral photos of him spotted in a carinderia circulated in the social media. Facebook user Layka Mae Pareja posted the photos last June 11 which showed the incoming president surveying the dishes in a carinderia by the road. Even with his back turned, the mayor's posture and stance was unmistakably familiar in the photos.

The post above shows that Duterte did not only displayed his humility but also his appeal to the masses. On the photos, a crowd of supporters flocked over the incoming president even as he sat down to eat. It was evident that Pareja, as well as the crowd, was starstrucked with the presence of Duterte in their place.

"He was still eating and there were already a bunch of people waiting for him, we haven't took a pic with him so we're just watching him at the side."

Netizens praised Duterte for his simplicity and humility, while some of them criticized him for going out in public despite of threats to his life. This was indeed a risky thing to do especially now that he's about to be sworn as a president in June 30. What's worse, drug lords were reported to have placed a P50 million reward to whoever can kill Duterte.

Despite of the popularity the photos are getting, there are some people who can't help but think that this is just a publicity stunt to improve the public image of Duterte. Some netizens speculated that this was a clever act of getting back the people's trust following consecutive negative blows; the most recent being Duterte's catcalling incident with GMA News reporter Mariz Umali.
