Edgar Matobato surrenders to PNP

The self-confessed hitman surrendered at Camp Crame today.

On Friday, October 7, self-confessed former member of the alleged Davao Death Squad, Edgar Matobato, surrendered at the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame after he was issued with a warrant arrest of a Davao court.

Matobato accused President Rodrigo Duterte to had ordered summary killings of criminals when he was still the mayor of Davao City.

He was accompanied by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV at Camp Crame at around 9 AM.

Matobato was then brought to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group National Capital Region (CIDG NCR) office to process booking procedures. There, he had a brief conversation with PNP Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa.

During a press conference, dela Rosa claimed Matobato's safety, saying: "I am giving the assurance na mamamatay si Matobato over the dead bodies of these CIDG personnel who are assigned to escort him. That's my word."

Dela Rosa also narrated how Matobato considered him as a good guy.

"We are both from Davao. Sabi niya, he knows me pretty well. Alam niyang mabait akong tao. Sabi niya sa akin: Mabait ka na tao, Sir, kaya kampante ako na sa iyo ako dinala ni Senator Trillanes," the PNP chief said.
