Duterte congratulates Trump over the phone

President Duterte and American President Trump talked over the phone.

On Friday, President Rodrigo Duterte made a phone call American President Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the presidency.

Presidential assistant Bong Go described the phone call as engaging and animated.

Both Duterte and Trump were in a good mood all throughout the phone call and they are looking forward in meeting each other at the ASEAN Summit next year, according to Go.

Earlier this month, Duterte made a speech wherein he took note of how he and Trump have similarities.

“Ayaw kong makipag-away kasi nandyan na si Trump. I would like to congratulate President Trump. Mabuhay ka!” Duterte said during a speech for the Filipino community in Malaysia.

“Pareho tayo nagmumura. Konting rason lang, mura kaagad. Medyo pare-pareho kami," he added.

The two presidents' phone conversation might be a sign of strengthening of ties between the United States and the Philippines.
